BPN Update – June 2024

Goodbye and thank you to BPN co-founder George Martin

We would like to say goodbye to BPN co-founder and chair George Martin. George was instrumental in setting up BPN in 2015 and served as Chief Executive for 5 years. Following a further 5 years as Chair he is now retiring from his role on 18th June 2024. Although retiring from BPN George is continuing as Chair of the Sustainable Development Foundation. A big thank you to George for his vision and tenacity in getting BPN and Building Performance Evaluation (BPE) more widely known and communicated throughout the built environment. His achievements have included getting BPE recognized by British Standards Institute through the development and publication of BS 40101.

Tom Dollard takes on new BPN leadership role

We are delighted to welcome Tom Dollard who as a Vice Chair of the Good Homes Alliance will take over George’s leadership role of BPN from within the GHA Board.

Tom is a Partner at architects Pollard Thomas Edwards, leading on sustainability and innovation. His career includes being involved in a range of building performance evaluations, most recently Building for 2050 for UK Government. His best-selling book, Designed to Perform, is an illustrated guide to delivering energy efficient homes. He has recently completed a Doctorate of Engineering from Leeds Beckett University, with a thesis entitled “How to increase the supply and performance of low carbon housing”. Tom is a keen advocate of BPE and will be a worthy successor to George.

BS 40101 refresh and survey

BSI have announced that they are looking to refresh the BS 40101 standard. BPN will shortly be sending out a survey to gather feedback of people’s experiences of BS 40101, more details to follow.

Upcoming events

Our events schedule is getting busy with the first of three workshops organised by BPN on the Retrofit Revisit project taking place in London this June (18th) with further events planned in Bristol and Salford in the autumn. Also this month (27th) we have a webinar on the Quality of New Build Homes in the UK, free for BPN/GHA members.

BPN and the Good Homes Alliance

Since January 2023, Building Performance Network (BPN) has been a programme of the Good Homes Alliance (GHA). Over the next 12 months we will continue to harmonise BPN and GHA comms (website, events, mailings, newsletter etc.) to further improve the membership offer and maximise our impacts and outputs.
