Building Performance Network in collaboration with Good Homes Alliance is pleased to support Futurebuild, which returns for an 18th year, taking place at London’s ExCeL from 5th – 7th March 2024.

The event, which is set to be the most impactful yet, will continue its mission in taking a stand for a better built environment, showcasing groundbreaking ideas, creative and inspirational innovations and crucial collaboration to help us set the stage for a greener, more resilient future.

More than 20,000 professionals from across the entire supply chain including architects, planners, urban designers, landscape architects, housebuilders, developers, consultants, contractors and manufacturers will come together to explore real sustainable building materials and practices and methods of delivering construction projects that are smart and sustainable.

BPN has curated a seminar session on the Energy stage on Tuesday 5th March (13:15 – 14:00) on ‘Closing the energy performance gap to deliver true net zero buildings’. Come along and meet our new network lead, Elfed Lewis!

Closing the energy performance gap to deliver true net zero buildings – curated by Building Performance Network

Tuesday 5th March, 13:15 – 14:00 (45 minutes), Energy stage

The performance gap – the difference between “as-designed” and “as-built” energy efficiency of our buildings can be considerable. In one study, actual energy use was over twice, and in some cases over four times the predicted energy use. What technologies and methods exist today to address the “performance gap” in building construction – for both new build and retrofit? If our as-built construction performs far worse than we expect, what effect will this have on the task of hitting net zero?

Chair: Elfed Lewis, Network Lead, Building Performance Network

Speakers:
Christian Dimbleby, Architype
Julie Godefroy, CIBSE
Luke Smith, Build Test Solutions

Energy efficiency standards: Are we going far enough? – curated by Good Homes Alliance

Wednesday 6th March, 11:30 – 12:15 (45 minutes), Buildings stage

The building fabric options proposed in the recently announced Future Homes and Buildings Standards consultation are even less ambitious than those consulted on previously, despite a commitment from MHCLG in 2019 to “push building fabric standards further than ever before”. And a Written Ministerial Statement (WMS) from December 2023 announced that “the Government does not expect plan-makers to set local energy efficiency standards for buildings that go beyond current or planned buildings regulations”.

Are the Future Homes Standards proposals really ‘fit for the future’, and what are the implications of the December 2023 WMS for progressive councils across the UK who are seeking to meet their climate emergency commitments?

Chair: Lynne Sullivan OBE, Chair, Good Homes Alliance

Speakers:
Lewis Knight, Bioregional
Thomas Lefevre, Etude
Hugh Ellis, TCPA

What’s new for Futurebuild 2024: more collaboration, more innovation

  • Share your vision, show your stripes, and embrace the change will be the conference themes this year, highlighting the importance of climate change and the need to take action to work together to achieve a better built environment.
  • The National Retrofit Conference curated by the Retrofit Academy. It will consist of a three-day programme to examine in detail how we are to deliver retrofit across the UK at the scale needed, from policy to practical delivery.

Take a stand and be a part of the solution for shaping the future of the built environment. For more information, please visit www.futurebuild.co.uk.
