Innovate UK is looking for competition assessors

Innovate UK (IUK) are looking for competition assessors who have expert knowledge of buildings and the built environment. Could this be you?

Most Innovate UK funding involves project ideas being submitted through a structured competitive process. While the competitions are developed and delivered by an IUK Innovation Lead, the assessment of proposals is undertaken at arm’s length from Innovate UK by independent assessors. The scores and recommendations of the independent assessors informs Innovate UK which project proposals should be funded.

Assessors are an intrinsic to finding great innovative project ideas. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHZNpRSwgeI for a short video on how IUK assessors assess.

Mat Colmer, Senior Innovation Lead for Construction and Net Zero Heat, is looking for people who can be assessors with expertise in the following areas: building performance evaluation, building occupant health and well-being, energy efficiency, zero carbon (non-fossil fuel) heating technology including heat storage, building environment whole systems engineering, community energy and active buildings.

Innovate UK pay a small fee per assessment. As an independent assessor you are not an employee of Innovate UK. You are engaged as an individual on the basis of your own expertise and not as a representative of your employer. There are also some limitations on assessing competitions that you may want to participate in.

If this sounds interesting then please contact mat.colmer@iuk.ukri.org who can talk you through what is involved.
